Extra Credit: Which disciple promised to watch over Mary?

Classwork/Extra Credit
We are finishing our Lessons on Holy Week, and today we discussed and took notes on how each Gospel writes a different yet similar account of Jesus's arrest, crucifixion and death.  In particular, in John's gospel he recounts in direct fashion how Jesus, before dying on the cross, leaned down and "asked the disciple to watch over his mother, Mary."  We also learned of the differences between the gospels (Matthew and Mark are reporting events; Luke and John are telling a story and revealing instruction in their writings).  Then Mylez asked, "Who was the disciple?"  As a class, we thought we would go and try and find out tonight by doing some online research.  There are a few extra credit points on the line to any student who "brings proof."

Due:

Courtesy Committee Chair people

Classwork
We have formed 9 Common Courtesy Committees to help us develop more tolerance and maturity as a class:

- Allowing others to go first
- Raising our hand in class
- Keeping “our side of the street clean”
- Giving our full attention to others
- Controlling outbursts (“holding it together”)
- Cleaning up after ourselves
- Respecting the personal space of others
- Keeping our opinions to ourselves
- Looking for opportunities to share our gifts

Students are brainstorming ways to improve within each of the above Courtesy goals.

Homework
We are looking for Committee Chair people to lead each Committee.

Due:

4) What is your favorite song?
5) What is your favorite super hero character?

Chapter 8 Professing Our Faith - Values reflection

Classwork/Homework

On Monday and Tuesday students are writing about two family values they have been taught and feel are most important in their lives (so important they would teach these two values to their kids in the very distant future!).  We then determined which value would inspire more leadership from us (like an Apostle), and which value would inspire us to embrace our family value and teach it to others (like a disciple).  They will complete this reflection and writing exercise in class, bring it home Tuesday night to share with family, and students will turn in their reflection on the 11th.

Due:

Challenges and Grace worksheet

Complete both sides of the worksheet for Monday of next week.

Due:

Bible story search and summary

Find one story from the Old Testament and one story from the New Testament and in your religion notebook finish writing a summary for both stories as well as identify the theme, moral, or message of each.

Due:

Giving Thanks reflection paper (green sheet)

After speaking with your parent(s), complete reflection sheet and bring back tomorrow with parent signature.

Due:

Giving Thanks project

Students are sitting down with their parent(s) to discuss how students can "give thanks" by giving back at home, at school and in our community/parish.  We have discussed how Christian acts help build up and strengthen the church (and our homes and communities).  The goal is for students to understand how their Christian acts make a big difference at home, at school, and in our communities.

Due:

BAPTISM acrostic sheet

Pink sheet with BAPTISM acrostic and Baptism events (other side) will be due Friday after we complete the chapter in class.

Due:

Integrity paragraph - final draft

Students are to work on writing their final draft of the Integrity paragraph.

Due:

Integrity paragraph - draft

Writing prompts: 1) How have I begun to act with more integrity in my daily life (especially at school)?  2) How can I begin to act with more integrity in my daily life (especially at school)?  Complete draft organizer with five sentences to prepare your paragraph draft.  The first box is your point of view (main point), sentences two-four are supporting your first sentence and tell us why, your last sentence restates your point of view in different words.  Choose one of these prompts, complete the draft organizer, and then work on your paragraph draft (due Tuesday, Oct. 25th).

Due:

Visualization of Your Beatitude

Choose a Beatitude and then create a visual (drawing) of your chosen Beatitude in today's times, in today's world.  What would your Beatitude look like in our time compared to the time of Jesus?

Due:

Religion paragraph (minimum of 5 complete sentences)

Based on our lesson today about how we are able to find "grace" in everyday life experiences with family, friends, others, write a 5 sentence (minimum) response to the following: "How do I live a Christian life and experience Sanctifying Grace (as we defined it in class today)?"
