After working on our Nature Poems, which are due tomorrow, we ran through a review of nouns, verb, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases (as adjective and adverb phrases).

Complete the noun review worksheet per the instructions given in class when diagramming the sentences on page 2 (underline nouns, underline verbs twice, use arrows to show descriptive words, and use parantheses to identify prepositional phrases).

Weekly Paragraph (Narrative Fiction)

We are writing our next paragraph and this time we are writing ourselves into the story as the narrator (1st or 3rd person).  Students will follow these guidelines for this story:
 
- 5 to 10 sentences
- Present tense
- No dialogue or quotation marks (direct dialogue only)
- You are the narrator (1st or 3rd person point of view)
- Must be fiction, not redux's of films or actual events
- Rough draft due Monday, February 26th
- Final draft (typed on a Google Doc) is due Tuesday, February 27th

As we further explore our theme of "heroes and legends," we thought about a time we were brave (and/or performed an act of kindness) and drew a quick image of the event.  We then wrote out a three sentence draft in past tense, writing compound sentence in first-person.

We finished our thesis statements, supporting topic sentences for our paragraphs and we started doing peer edits for each other.  I circulated the room and helped with edits while some students completed their final paragraph drafts and other students worked on completing their rough drafts for me to approve.

All students are to finish writing their final drafts tonight on loose leaf paper with the heading of "Controlled Burn" (or finish completing their rough draft for me to approve in the morning).

We continued our discussion around the following themes in our novel: overcoming and managing fear and anxiety, overcoming loss, and building new friendships and relationships.  We learned about different editing and correction symbols we will use when editing each other's paragraphs.  We began writing our rough draft to the following prompt: "When you consider Maia and Grandpa Howard, what predictions do you have for the remaining chapters in the novel?"
