Reopening the School Plan
St. Charles School will reopen its doors to our students as follows for in-person instruction; March 15 for TK-2nd grade and March 17 for 3rd-6th grade. Distance learning will continue even as we welcome students back on campus. Parents have the option to choose wheather they would like their child to return to campus for in-person learning or continue remote learning at home. Our teachers will be present in the classroom with returning students and some students will be in the classroom via Zoom.
It is our hope to bring back 7th and 8th Grades too, but no schools in LA County may open for in-person instruction for grades 7-12 while Los Angeles remains in the Purple (or Widespread) Tier. As of February 23, the adjusted case rate in Los Angeles County is 12.3 cases per 100,000 and the positivity rate is 5.1. Assuming the positivity rate remains steady (or decreases), we will have the opportunity to welcome our 7th and 8th Grades once the adjusted case rate drops below 7.0.
Once students are on campus, the schedule will be the same as it is now with dismissal occurring before lunch. Please note that drop-off and pick-up times may be adjusted slightly to accommodate the new procedures required to reenter the building.
We are working on a schedule that extends the day and includes lunch, but we do not expect to roll it out until our students, teachers, and staff have had the opportunity to reacclimate to being on campus and are used to the new protocols in place.
As a number of questions undoubtedly still remain, please join us on Tuesday, March 2nd at 7pm for a St. Charles Borromeo Town Hall.
